"The name of this gorgeous place echoes the privileges granted long ago by the kingdom of Aragon. Because of the valley's isolation, it suffered terrible hardship in the long winter months; there's still a remoteness and silence but you'Il find the privations hard to credit now. Big, beautiful bedrooms and quirky, designer bathrooms have a generous, stylish comfort which is entirely 21 st-century; the history of the place is still apparent in the ancient detail, rough golden stone and huge great beams. Juan inherited the two buildings –one a 15th-century abbey, the other a hotel –from his family; until 10 years ago they were used to shelter cows... If you really want to push the boat out, book the Suite Privilegio –it’s quite something. There’s even a brass telescope so you can make the most of the stunning views (the breathtakingly sheer rockface of Peña Telera down in the valley is a classic landmark). Juan and his wife are thoroughly nice people –she’s from Zaragoza and used to teach Italian –and very proud of their collaboration with top Spanish chef Martín Berasategui."
